BOLINGBROKE and NORFOLK are brought before RICHARD, GAUNT, and the court, and accuse each other of treason. RICHARD fails to make peace and sets a date for trial by combat. 1/2 London. A room in the Duke of Lancaster's palace. The DUCHESS OF GLOSTER urges GAUNT to avenge Gloster's death. 1/3 Gosford Green, near Coventry. LORD MARSHAL, AUMERLE, RICHARD, GAUNT, BUSHY, BAGOT, and GREEN enter, followed by BOLINGBROKE and NORFOLK. BOLINGBROKE and NORFOLK prepare to fight. RICHARD stops the combat and banishes both men. 1/4 The court. RICHARD, BAGOT, GREEN, AND AUMERLE enter. RICHARD says he will fight the Irish rebels with England's money. BUSHY enters and says GAUNT is dying. 2/1 London. A room in Ely-house. GAUNT speaks to the DUKE OF YORK and others of the damage Richard has done England. RICHARD, the QUEEN, AUMERLE, BUSHY, GREEN, BAGOT, ROSS, AND WILLOUGHBY enter. GAUNT accuses the king of robbing England and murdering Gloster; exits. NORTHUMBERLAND enters and says that Gaunt is dead. RICHARD siezes Gaunt's possessions. All exit, except NORTHUMBERLAND, WILLOUGHBY and ROSS, who decide to join Bolingbroke's forces. 2/2 The court. The QUEEN, BUSHY, and BAGOT talk. GREEN enters with the news that Bolingbroke's forces have landed in the north. The DUKE OF YORK enters, torn between his duty to his king and to his nephew. A MESSENGER enters with news of the Duchess of Gloster's death. BUSHY, BAGOT, and GREEN decide to flee. 2/3 The wilds in Glostershire. BOLINGBROKE and NORTHUMBERLAND enter, with forces. HENRY PERCY enters and pledges himself to BOLINGBROKE. They are joined by ROSS and WILLOUGHBY. BERKLEY enters, followed by the DUKE OF YORK who castigates BOLINGBROKE for his treachery. 2/4 A camp in Wales. Despite SALISBURY's protestations, a CAPTAIN OF A BAND OF WELSHMEN believes that Richard is dead and so disbands his army. 3/1 Bolingbroke's camp at Bristol. BOLINGBROKE orders the execution of BUSHY and GREEN, and asks the DUKE OF YORK to look after the Queen. 3/2 The coast of Wales. A castle in view. RICHARD, just returned from Ireland, enters with CARLISLE, AUMERLE, and SOLDIERS. SALISBURY enters with the news that the Welsh army has disbanded. SCROOP enters and tells RICHARD that Bushy, Green, and Wiltshire are dead, and that the country is rising against him. RICHARD falls into despair. SCROOP tells RICHARD that the Duke of York has joined BOLINGBROKE. 3/3 Wales. Before Flint-castle. BOLINGBROKE, the DUKE OF YORK, NORTHUMBERLAND, and others converse. HENRY PERCY enters and says that the king is in the castle. BOLINGBROKE sends NORTHUMBERLAND to tell Richard that Bolingbroke will stop fighting if his rights are restored. RICHARD appears on the castle walls and accepts BOLINGBROKE's terms. RICHARD and BOLINGBROKE meet in the castle court. 3/4 Langley. The Duke of York's garden. The QUEEN and her LADIES overhear GARDENERS discussing Richard's fall from power. 4/1 Westminster Hall. Parliament sitting. BOLINGBROKE, AUMERLE, NORTHUMBERLAND, PERCY, FITZWATER, SURREY, CARLISLE, WESTMINSTER, BAGOT, and others enter. BOLINGBROKE asks BAGOT who killed Gloster. BAGOT blames AUMERLE. The nobles take sides. The DUKE OF YORK enters and announces that Richard has abdicated in Bolingbroke's favor. CARLISLE objects and is arrested by NORTHUMBERLAND for treason. RICHARD is brought in and painfully divests himself of the crown. All exit, except CARLISLE, WESTMINSTER, and AUMERLE, who begin to plot against Bolingbroke. 5/1 London. A street leading to the Tower. The QUEEN and her LADIES wait for RICHARD, who enters, guarded. NORTHUMBERLAND enters and orders RICHARD and the QUEEN to separate exiles. 5/2 The Duke of York's palace. The DUKE and DUCHESS OF YORK converse. AUMERLE enters. The DUKE OF YORK grabs a paper from AUMERLE which outlines the conspiracy against Bolingbroke. Despite the DUCHESS OF YORK's pleading, the DUKE OF YORK rides off to denounce AUMERLE. AUMERLE and the DUCHESS OF YORK follow. 5/3 Windsor Castle. BOLINGBROKE, PERCY, and LORDS enter. AUMERLE enters and begs for forgiveness. The DUKE OF YORK storms in to accuse AUMERLE. The DUCHESS OF YORK follows, to plead for mercy. BOLINGBROKE pardons AUMERLE, but orders the execution of the other conspirators. 5/4 Windsor Castle. EXTON and a SERVANT enter. EXTON concludes that BOLINGBROKE wants him to kill Richard. 5/5 Pomfret Castle. RICHARD soliloquises on his condition. A former GROOM visits him. His KEEPER enters with food. EXTON and his SERVANTS burst in. RICHARD kills one SERVANT, and is himself killed. 5/6 Windsor Castle. BOLINGBROKE, the DUKE OF YORK, and others enter. NORTHUMBERLAND and FITZWATER enter, each with news of rebels who have been executed. PERCY brings in CARLISE, whose life BOLINGBROKE spares. EXTON enters with Richard's coffin. The uneasy BOLINGBROKE banishes EXTON and decides to go on pilgrimage.
